This week’s Facebook live, the #livePLUS as I call it, was alll about words and their power. At first you may not see the connection between our words and our self-confidence but if I ask you about your inner critique voice you may get why I chose this topic.
As the broadcast was in Hungarian but I definitely want to include my foreign community members as well, here is the summary in English:
Words are essential parts of our daily communication and once they are said out loud, they start their own life and based on the emotions attached to them, they can build or ruin our lives. That is why it is so important to avoid misunderstandings so try to express yourself very clearly all the time.
Often we are afraid to speak our mind as we are not sure how the other person will react. However that is not under your control so if you feel, think or wish something, say it out loud. I believe everything can be told in the proper way, even at work.
Unfortunately our words tend to miss respect, we do not ask anymore but demand. Take a look at the comment section online and the verbal fights that go on there.
Words become even more powerful when those say it who are important to us and many times they can hurt us the most. Pay attention and remember, kindness is for free and your kind words can change another person’s day or even life! Be kind to everyone you meet, whether it is in the store or on a bus. It is for free but the effect is priceless!
As for the inner conversation in your head, there is one important rule: never say anything to and about yourself that you would not say to or about your best friend. Don’t be mean to yourself, in other words.
North-American Indians believe that once we say a word, it starts to manifest, whether it is a good one or a bad one. How true is that? Everything that man has created started as a single thought and words lead to the manifestation.
Here are a few tips how to turn negative self-talk to positive:
- I have never done this before! POSITIVE VERSION: It is a chance to learn something new.
- I can’t make it! POSITIVE VERSION: I will try to make it work.
- It is too complicated! POSITIVE VERSION: I will try a different method to solve this.
- I will never get better! POSITIVE VERSION: I try my best with all my efforts.
- I’m angry and disappointed that I failed. POSITIVE VERSION: I’m determined to try again and be better.
