They say that photographers steal a piece of your soul when taking a picture of you, at least Native Indians believed so. I found it true for myself in July when I knew that the most important picture of my life was about to be taken: the one for my first book’s cover!
I woke up early, packed an Ikea bag with 4 Marina Rinaldi outfits, countless shoes, accessories so I could hardly lift it off the floor and ran to my hairdresser. Since I needed a root colouring, I did not ask a hairdresser for the shooting but I started my day at my very own hairstylist, Kriszta. I was so lost in my own thoughts that I even missed the street and got lost on my way, though I have been a guest at that saloon for years. I was thinking about the doubts of the passed 4 years, the misbeliefs even from my own parents whether I should blog or not, the times of hateful comments and confused faces when I said I was a body positive advocate. All these came up to me so fresh and vivid. And there I am, going to the most important hairdresser appointment to get my hair fixed for the photoshooting of my book cover. I had some wild dreams over the 4 years but I hardly dared to believe I would be asked by the biggest publishing house in Hungary to write a book. A book. Boom, it hit like a lightning and I had tears in my eyes as I was walking in to my hairdresser.
Getting emotional happed a few more times that day as the tears of gratitude, joy and excitement appeared on my face while Ági Pataky makeup artist was putting the foundation on at set. She asked me about the photos and I told her, these are going to be the most important pictures of my life. She stopped, gave me a hug and said: And I am so blessed to be part of them! Then I told about my self-confidence journey, the book and the tears came again as You came to my mind. I imagined that You will hold this book in your hands, looking at those pictures so I definitely wanted to give a little piece of my soul to you by sharing the background story of those images.
Anikó, my editor was there with me during the whole photoshooting and her presence calmed me down. We developed a high level of trust during the months we have been working together and her ironing skills came handy at the shooting, too. I was lucky to bring a few outfits from the Italian luxury brand, Marina Rinaldi of their FW2016 collection pieces which looked so stunning even on the hangers that the whole crew fell in love with them immediately. This was my fist time working with photographer Péter Máté but we got the chemistry right after getting into a conversation. He is professional and so very kind! Also, the PR manager of my publishing house, András, together with Márti and Gábor, the creative team who work on my book cover was there at the shooting, too. The whole team was there to help me and give the right instructions for the poses. I was amazed to have the book cover team there as they already had some thoughts where the book title would be so they helped me to find the best poses.
High heels, big lamps producing crazy heat but I was so happy and I immediately felt that I arrived. I was not nervous anymore because I decided to be present. Péter, the photographer also boosted my confidence when a few minutes into the shooting he said how much he loved taking my pictures. I was flying so high! I felt no more the pain in my toes and sweat running on my back became irrelavant. The pictures of my life were being taken so I had to be present.
We did 4 outfits during the shootings, some will appear on the cover and back of the book while others we will use for promo and PR purposes. I fell in love with the images right there on the screen of the camera and I felt that these were the best pictures of my life. The reason why I felt this way was, beside the professional team, happiness and gratitude. As I am typing these lines I have the same feeling and I am just smiling because I know and now I believe: #thebookiscoming
