#dailyPLUS: I’m not pretty for a big girl. I’m pretty. Period.
I’m sure you have heard these backhanded type of compliments before which seem nice at first hearing but after you give them a second thought, they are rather hurtful. These fake compliments make more damage than any good since half of them refer to a huge stereotype.
We get these insults not only about our weight but regarding various areas of live: you drive good for a woman, you look fit for your age, you seem quite smart for a blonde girl and you look nice for a newly mom. These stereotypes are underlying in each sentence: because women can’t drive, after 30 you are worthless, blondes are stupid and women get lazy and become ugly after giving birth to their child. I encourage you to interrupt anyone giving you these backhanded compliments, speak up! Because today you may be the one „praised” but tomorrow they can out you into the other category behind your back. If someone truly wants to say nice things they should just say them without any negative benchmark. Because you are beautiful, you are a talented driver, you are fit, smart and pretty. Period. Or actually, exclamation mark!
