I tried to describe various shades of colours in my previous chapter (read it HERE ) and today I continue the Sicilian story telling with various tastes. However would it be possible to give back with words the undescribable flavour parade in my mouth after trying the tagliatelle pasta with baby cherry and cream sauce with king prawns in it? Could I describe the smooth taste of fresh ricotta cheese filled in front of your eyes to a crispy cannolo? Without exeggaration I was swept of my feet while eating my way out throughout the day. Because the whole day is like an endless fiesta with small breaks between the breakfast, aperitivo or dinner.
Sicily showed its matriarchal face with strong central female figures, the mamma-s who keep the family together and who always have the last word, just like in the movies. They have the biggest hearts – spacious enough to accommodate the whole big Sicilian family, including us. Their faith is complex and strong: they fear God and visit the church not only on big holidays and they place pictures of their beloved Holy Mary or Padre Pio next to the family photos at the most important place of their houses. They believe in traditions, the power of the family which conquers all as Rosanna mamma said „Family comes first, before all!”. These are not just cliches or empty words but I saw it with my own eyes how they love and respect each other. Every day at our first meeting they hugged and kissed me even if we just saw each other 8 or 10 hours before that. I will never forget those strong hugs we exchanged when the time came to say goodbye and even if we joked and laughed, our eyes were filled with tears which then ran down our cheeks in rivers. Moms are dangerous in the best possible way: their kindness, their selflessness and their passion will steal your heart in a minute and never let you go. And I never want to let it go because this fresh new family connection feels like it is hundred years old.
They don’t need big words to express their feeling sas all of their gestures and acts are full of kindness and love. I believe that the fruits in Sicily are so sweet and the food is so delicious because the people’s hearts are in them. The true southern love which can bright up the darkest day and make a stranger like me to become their newest daughter. I felt it in the first hour of the first day: I arrived home.
And there is no better place to start feeling the magic of tastes as on the farmers’ market and I chose this colourful Yours Clothing set to be photographed in that special environment where I got many unexpected volunteer models next to me. Because locals there never say no.
